The 18-hole Shinnecock Hills course is located in Southampton on Long Island, New York.They founded the United States Golfers Association
along with five other clubs in 1894. The club is the oldest formal organized golf club in the United States and the first to admit women. The club has always been listed among the best golfing destinations in the country.
History
The original 12-hole course of Shinnecock Hills was founded in 1891 which was remodeled and expanded to an 18-hole layout in 1895. The course offers 6,996 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70. The club has the first and oldest clubhouse in the US. The club hosted the US Open four times. The club has a course rating of 74.5 and a slope rating of 140.
Tournaments hosted at Shinnecock Hills
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club has hosted the United States Open Championship (US Open) and the annual open golf tournament of the United States in 1896, 1986, 1995 and 2004. It hosted the US Amateur in 1896 and the Walker Cup in 1977.
